DeChambeau voices confidence as LIV Golf closes uncertain 2026 season

Bryson DeChambeau said he remains proud of LIV Golf’s impact as the breakaway circuit completed its 2026 season in Indianapolis amid continuing uncertainty about its future. BBC Sport reported that the two-time major champion believes the league still has significant potential, while acknowledging that its first four years included both successes and problems.

The Indianapolis tournament became the season finale after LIV Golf cancelled its planned Team Championship in Michigan. LIV’s official event report said Michael La Sasso won the individual title at The Club at Chatham Hills on Sunday, holding off a chasing group that included DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia. The cancellation meant the campaign ended earlier than originally scheduled.

LIV Golf launched in 2022 as a rival to the PGA Tour and attracted prominent players including DeChambeau. Its financial position changed in April when Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund withdrew its backing. BBC Sport reported that chief executive Scott O’Neil has said new investors have been secured for next season, but he has not disclosed detailed plans for the competition’s financing or structure.

DeChambeau described the league’s development as an eventful process that had made those involved stronger. He referred to a transition from what he called “LIV 1.0” to “LIV 2.0” and said he had positive thoughts about what could happen in 2027, while stopping short of offering specifics. He also conceded that not everything during LIV’s development had been perfect.

The American’s central point was that LIV had introduced a different approach to professional golf. He said he was proud of what the circuit had done, including its attempt to change established conventions within the sport. At the end of his BBC interview, DeChambeau hinted that something enjoyable was coming, but provided no announcement or timetable.

For now, the confirmed position is limited: the 2026 schedule is complete, the Michigan team event did not take place, and O’Neil says replacement investment has been found. The identity and terms of that investment, along with LIV Golf’s 2027 format, remain undisclosed. DeChambeau’s comments express confidence in the next phase, but the league has yet to publish the details needed to define it.
