De Zerbi Seeks One More Tottenham Signing Before Transfer Deadline

Roberto De Zerbi wants Tottenham Hotspur to make one more addition before the transfer window closes on Tuesday night, although departures could also shape the club's final business. The Guardian reported that the Spurs head coach is targeting a player for one specific position, which he did not identify.

De Zerbi discussed the closing stage of the window over dinner on Thursday with Tottenham's owners and senior figures. Chief executive Vinai Venkatesham, sporting director Johan Lange and De Zerbi's assistant Enrico Venturelli were among those involved. The coach said the club's work in the market had already gone beyond what he expected at the beginning of the window.

The talks came on the same day Tottenham welcomed Omar Marmoush from Manchester City. De Zerbi said the forward is available for Saturday's home match against Newcastle United and could even start. Spurs have also been linked with Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo, but De Zerbi did not confirm that player as the target he has in mind.

Outgoing deals remain part of the picture. De Zerbi identified midfielder Pape Sarr as one player whose situation could be decided in the final days of the window. He said he had been clear with every member of his squad and that players who wished to leave were waiting for suitable offers, as was the club.

De Zerbi also set out his expectations for anybody who remains at Tottenham after the deadline. He said those players must be proud and happy to stay, and must respect the rules inside the dressing room. His comments left open the possibility that an exit could create room for another arrival before trading ends.

There was also positive team news before the Newcastle fixture. Mohammed Kudus, sidelined since January by a thigh injury, could return to the bench. De Zerbi said Micky van de Ven was ready to start, while decisions were still to be made over whether Pedro Porro and Savio would begin the match or feature as substitutes. Tottenham's final transfer moves therefore remain unsettled, but De Zerbi has made clear that the club is still working on both sides of the market.
