Steph Curry Scores 41 Points as Warriors Defeat Trail Blazers 128-122 in Overtime Thriller
Stephen Curry turned back the clock with a vintage 41-point performance on Monday night, leading the Golden State Warriors to a thrilling 128-122 overtime victory over the Portland Trail Blazers at Chase Center. The 38-year-old superstar's spectacular display included 9 three-pointers and 15 points in the fourth quarter and overtime combined, helping Golden State snap a troubling three-game losing streak in dramatic fashion.
Curry was absolutely electric in the final stages of regulation, scoring 10 points in the final 3:24 to force overtime after Portland had built what appeared to be a comfortable 8-point lead. The two-time MVP then took over in the extra period, hitting two crucial three-pointers and a driving layup that sealed the victory and sent the Chase Center crowd into a frenzy.
"Steph was absolutely incredible tonight," said Warriors coach Steve Kerr after the victory. "At this stage of his career, to still be able to perform at that level when we need him most is remarkable. He willed us to victory tonight with one of the best clutch performances I've ever witnessed. That's what separates great players from good players."
The victory was crucial for Golden State's playoff positioning, as they improved to 34-30 and moved within two games of the eighth-seeded Los Angeles Lakers in the competitive Western Conference race. With 18 games remaining in the regular season, every win becomes increasingly valuable for a Warriors team fighting to avoid the play-in tournament.
Portland, despite strong performances from Damian Lillard (35 points, 11 assists) and Anfernee Simons (28 points), couldn't close out a game they controlled for most of the evening. The Trail Blazers held leads of 10 or more points on three separate occasions but were unable to contain Curry when the game was on the line.
"Steph made some incredible shots tonight," Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups acknowledged. "We played well for most of the game and had our chances to close it out, but that's what elite players do - they find ways to impact winning when their team needs them most. Credit to him for an outstanding performance."
Klay Thompson provided excellent support for Curry with 22 points and 6 three-pointers, while Draymond Green contributed 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists in a complete all-around effort. The veteran core's chemistry was evident throughout the contest, particularly during the crucial moments when their championship experience proved decisive.
Curry's 41-point explosion was his highest-scoring game since recording 43 points against Sacramento in December and served notice that the Warriors remain dangerous despite their inconsistent play this season. The future Hall of Famer is now averaging 28.4 points per game while shooting 42% from three-point range.
The victory extends Golden State's home winning streak to four games and provides enormous momentum as they prepare for a challenging stretch that includes games against Denver, Phoenix, and the Los Angeles Clippers. If Curry continues playing at this level, the Warriors could still make serious noise in the loaded Western Conference playoffs.
