NBA All-Star Weekend Delivers Record-Breaking Performances and Stellar Entertainment
The 2026 NBA All-Star Weekend wrapped up in spectacular fashion Sunday night, leaving fans and players alike buzzing about what many are calling the best All-Star celebration in recent memory. The three-day extravaganza in Indianapolis delivered on all fronts, from record-breaking individual performances to innovative format changes that reinvigorated the showcase.
The marquee All-Star Game itself lived up to the hype, with Team Giannis defeating Team LeBron 211-186 in a high-scoring affair that featured 42 three-pointers – a new All-Star Game record. Boston Celtics guard Jayson Tatum captured MVP honors with a dazzling 55-point performance, shooting an incredible 18-of-26 from the field and 11-of-16 from beyond the arc. His performance marked the highest-scoring All-Star Game in history, surpassing Anthony Davis's previous record of 52 points set in 2017.
"This weekend represents everything beautiful about basketball," Tatum said during the post-game ceremony. "Playing alongside these incredible talents and putting on a show for the fans – that's what it's all about. I'm just grateful to be here and blessed to have this moment."
The weekend's festivities began Friday with a revamped Rising Stars format that featured four teams of eight players each, mixing rookies, sophomores, and G League standouts. The tournament-style competition proved to be an instant hit with fans, generating more excitement than the traditional rookie-sophomore split of previous years. Detroit Pistons rookie Cade Cunningham led his squad to victory, showcasing the poise and leadership that has made him an early Rookie of the Year candidate.
Saturday night's skills competitions provided their own memorable moments. The Three-Point Contest saw Golden State Warriors sharpshooter Stephen Curry reclaim his crown with a finals round performance that included a perfect money ball rack – all five shots from the designated corner spot. Curry's victory marked his third Three-Point Contest title and reminded everyone why he's considered the greatest shooter in NBA history.
The Slam Dunk Contest returned to its roots with creativity and athleticism on full display. Miami Heat forward Tyler Herro surprised everyone by entering the competition and ultimately taking home the trophy with a series of inventive dunks that combined technical difficulty with artistic flair. His winning dunk – a 360-degree windmill while blindfolded – brought the crowd to its feet and earned perfect scores from all five judges.
