Police attend Florida youth soccer dispute as i9 Sports opens review
Police said no one was arrested or forced to leave after a dispute involving a three-year-old player. i9 Sports is reviewing the incident amid conflicting accounts from the family and an organiser.

Police attended a youth soccer event in Florida after a dispute over the removal of a three-year-old player, with his parents and an organiser offering different accounts of what happened. The Guardian reported that the family said the child had been taken out because his ability was embarrassing other players, while the organiser alleged he had pushed children during the game.

Watch the highlights:

The Winter Park Police Department said the family was cooperative when officers arrived and told them the game had finished and they were leaving. No arrests were made, and police said nobody was issued a trespass notice or forced to leave the park.

According to the Guardian's account of police body-camera footage, an organiser working for youth sports provider i9 Sports acknowledged that the boy was advanced compared with the other players and had scored repeatedly. The organiser nevertheless said the concern was pushing, and told officers the parents had caused a disturbance after their son was taken out of the game.

The child's mother disputed that explanation in the body-camera footage. She said the complaints had initially concerned her son not passing, adding that other children were not receiving the ball when he did pass. His parents also posted a video showing him dribbling around older players. The Guardian reported that the clip had spread widely online and did not show him pushing anyone.

The organiser told police that the programme was prepared to refund the family if they left and asked for their names so that a refund could be arranged. That offer was separate from the police response: the department's statement said the family agreed to leave, rather than being compelled to do so by officers.

i9 Sports said it had contacted the family and begun reviewing the incident, including speaking with those involved. The organisation emphasised the importance of respectful treatment and the well-being of children and families, while declining to speculate or circulate unverified information. Its statement did not resolve the conflicting accounts of why the child was removed from play.
