Csinger strikes late as Hungary beat Ukraine to close on group leaders
Márk Csinger scored in the 85th minute to secure Hungary a 2-1 win over Ukraine in Trnava. Hungary now sit one point behind Nations League group leaders Northern Ireland.

Márk Csinger scored two minutes after Ukraine had equalised to give Hungary a 2-1 Nations League victory in Trnava on Monday. The result left Hungary second in Group B2 with seven points, one behind Northern Ireland, according to the Hungarian Football Federation's match report.

Watch the highlights:

Hungary took the lead in the 52nd minute after a goalless first half. Milán Tóth finished Milán Vitális's cross from close range for his first senior international goal. Ukraine subsequently drew level through Roman Yaremchuk in the 83rd minute, leaving the visitors with little time to recover their advantage.

Csinger supplied the response in the 85th minute. The federation reported that Gábor Jurek recovered possession and released fellow substitute Rajmund Tóth on the right. His delivery reached Csinger, who finished beneath the crossbar. It was the defender's first goal for Hungary, on his fifth international appearance.

Sky Sports' match statistics show that Ukraine had more possession and attempts but fewer shots on target. Ukraine recorded 17 attempts to Hungary's 10, while Hungary led the on-target count four to two. Ukraine also struck the woodwork once. Those figures underline the contrast between the home side's greater volume of attacking opportunities and Hungary's ability to turn fewer attempts into the winning score.

The defensive workload was substantial for Hungary, who made 34 clearances compared with Ukraine's 15, according to Sky Sports. Ukraine registered 32 touches in the opposition penalty area against Hungary's seven. Neither side received a red card. Hungary nevertheless followed Friday's 1-0 victory over Georgia with another win, having begun the campaign with a 1-0 loss to Ukraine and a goalless draw against Northern Ireland.

That sequence has brought Hungary six points from their last two fixtures after taking one from their opening two. The federation lists their remaining group matches as a trip to Georgia on November 14 and a home meeting with Northern Ireland on November 17. Hungary therefore head into the final pair of fixtures within one point of first place.
