Cowboys beat Colts 27-23 after late Williams touchdown and Downs interception
Dallas recovered from a late Indianapolis field goal to beat the Colts 27-23 on Sunday, with Javonte Williams scoring the decisive touchdown and Caleb Downs ending the home team's response with an interception. According to The Guardian's live NFL coverage, the Cowboys improved to 4-5, while Indianapolis dropped to 2-7 after a game that changed direction repeatedly in the closing stages.
Watch the highlights:
The Colts had moved ahead with 1:37 left when Shrader converted a 50-yard field goal to make it 23-20. That left Dak Prescott 97 seconds to produce a winning drive. Dallas made immediate progress: Prescott found Ryan Flournoy for 46 yards on the opening play of the possession, taking the Cowboys into the red zone while leaving time to complete the comeback.
Williams then gained eight yards to set up first-and-goal. A pass-interference penalty on the following play moved Dallas to the one-yard line, and Williams ran in with 1:08 remaining. The Guardian reported that Indianapolis allowed the score to preserve time for another possession. That final opportunity ended when Daniel Jones was intercepted by Downs, securing the four-point Dallas victory.
The finish came after Indianapolis had erased a 20-10 deficit. Jones connected with Ashton Dulin for a 55-yard touchdown with 1:17 remaining in the third quarter, reducing the margin to three points. Shrader subsequently tied the game with a 59-yard field goal with 5:56 left in the fourth quarter before his later kick briefly put the Colts in front.
Indianapolis also lost a scoring opportunity earlier in the fourth quarter. With Dallas leading 20-17 and the Colts in the red zone, Quinnen Williams tackled Jonathan Taylor and forced a fumble that gave possession back to the Cowboys. Dallas had already conceded 138 penalty yards by that stage, according to The Guardian's account, helping Indianapolis advance before the turnover interrupted its drive.
Prescott had earlier thrown a 44-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb to give Dallas a 17-7 half-time lead. The Cowboys ultimately needed another long completion and a defensive stop to finish the job, a week after their overtime defeat by Arizona. Sunday's result came as the New York Giants also won, beating Philadelphia 19-11.
