Corinthians appoint Clarence Seedorf as head coach through 2027
Corinthians have appointed Clarence Seedorf as head coach on a contract running until the end of 2027, bringing the former Netherlands midfielder back to management for the first time since 2019. BBC Sport reported the appointment on Monday, while CNN Brasil said the Brazilian club announced the agreement on Sunday. The 50-year-old succeeds Fernando Diniz with Corinthians fighting to retain their top-flight status.

The change follows a run of seven consecutive league defeats under Diniz. According to Agência Brasil, his dismissal came after a 2-1 loss to Internacional in Porto Alegre. Corinthians have turned to a coach whose most recent managerial job was with Cameroon, ending a lengthy absence from the touchline at a difficult stage of the club's domestic campaign.
Club president Osmar Stabile said Seedorf had been selected because his working approach matched what Corinthians wanted, CNN Brasil reported. Stabile expressed confidence that the coach and his staff could help the team through its problems in the Brazilian championship. Football executive Marcelo Paz also highlighted Seedorf's previous experience in Brazil as an important factor in the decision to appoint him.
That experience came as a player with Botafogo, where Seedorf spent the final chapter of his playing career before moving into coaching. Agência Brasil reported that he began his managerial career at AC Milan in 2014, later taking charge of Shenzhen FC in China, Deportivo La Coruna in Spain and Cameroon. His return to Brazil therefore follows coaching assignments across club and international football.
Seedorf's playing record includes four Champions League titles: two with Milan and one each with Real Madrid and Ajax. BBC Sport noted that he remains the only player to have won the competition with three different clubs. At Corinthians, he takes over a squad that includes Memphis Depay and Jesse Lingard, both of whom previously played for Manchester United.
In comments carried by the Brazilian reports, Seedorf described the appointment as both a privilege and a major responsibility, stressing his intention to build a team committed throughout matches. He also appealed directly to Corinthians supporters, recalling their passion and saying their backing would be needed for the remaining games. His contract extends beyond the immediate relegation battle into the following season.
