Conor Coady Leaves Wrexham After Contract Terminated by Mutual Consent

Conor Coady has left Wrexham after the Championship club and the defender agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent. Wrexham confirmed the departure on Monday and thanked the former England international for his efforts, bringing his stay at the Racecourse Ground to an end after 13 months.

Coady joined Wrexham permanently from Leicester City in August 2025 for an undisclosed fee. BBC Sport reported at the time of his departure that the transfer was believed to have cost about £2 million. He signed a two-year contract that included an option for Wrexham to extend the agreement by a further season, and had recently entered the final guaranteed year of that deal.

The centre-back started Wrexham's first five matches of the 2025-26 season but then dropped down the selection order. BBC Sport reported that he made six appearances for Wrexham before moving to Charlton Athletic on loan during the January transfer window. He did not appear in any of Wrexham's first four matchday squads in all competitions this season.

Coady played 12 times during his loan spell with Charlton and scored once. He was also used in midfield as the London club secured Championship survival with one match remaining. After completing that spell in May, Coady said he could not rule out returning to Wrexham, but the two sides have now formally ended the contract.

The 33-year-old had moved to north Wales after two seasons at Leicester. Leicester's official record credits him with 43 appearances and two goals for the club, including 17 appearances during its 2023-24 Championship title campaign. Before that, he spent eight years with Wolverhampton Wanderers, captaining the team in the Premier League and European competition and making more than 300 appearances.

Coady also won 10 senior caps for England and scored once for his country. Wrexham did not announce a next club for the defender or disclose any financial terms attached to the mutual termination. The confirmed agreement therefore ends his Wrexham spell without establishing where he will play next.
