Connacht score eight tries to beat Zebre 48-27 and climb to sixth
Connacht returned to winning ways in the United Rugby Championship with an eight-try victory at Dexcom Stadium. Dave Heffernan scored twice, while Zebre collected their first point of the season through a try bonus.

Connacht climbed to sixth in the United Rugby Championship with a 48-27 victory over Zebre at Dexcom Stadium, scoring eight tries in a match that also brought the visitors their first point of the season. BBC Sport reported that Stuart Lancaster's team built a 33-17 half-time lead before adding three further tries after the interval to complete a bonus-point win.

Watch the highlights:

Zebre struck first when Giacomo Ferrari crossed in the fifth minute, although Giovanni Montemauri missed the conversion. Connacht answered with four tries in a 15-minute burst, with Finlay Bealham, Sean Jansen, Cathal Forde and Sam Gilbert all scoring. That sequence put the hosts in command after their early setback and provided the foundation for a five-try first half.

The visitors continued to find opportunities of their own. Jacopo Botturi scored to interrupt Connacht's run before Prendergast added another try for the home side. Mirko Belloni then finished a Zebre attack before the break, giving the Italian side three tries at half-time. Despite those responses, Zebre went into the interval facing a 16-point deficit after Connacht's productive opening period.

The pace slowed after the restart, but Connacht extended their advantage through Dave Heffernan on the hour. West followed with another try as the hosts built on their Champions Cup victory the previous weekend. Those scores took Connacht's total to seven tries and ensured that Zebre's attacking contributions did not undo the lead established in the first half.

Zebre nevertheless secured a tangible return from the match when Giampietro Ribaldi crossed for their fourth try, earning a try bonus point. Bautista Staville subsequently added a fifth late in the game. The bonus was their first point of the campaign, according to BBC Sport, although the defeat left them at the bottom of the URC table while Connacht moved up to sixth.

Heffernan completed the scoring with his second try in the closing seconds, going over from a maul near the line. Gilbert missed the final conversion, leaving the margin at 21 points. Connacht finished with five successful conversions alongside their eight tries, while Zebre converted only one of their five tries in a contest that produced 13 tries overall.
