Concacaf confirms two eight-team groups for 2027 Gold Cup
The 2027 Gold Cup will give each team four group matches under a revised format. Concacaf has also confirmed the tournament dates and April draw.

Concacaf announced on Thursday that the 2027 Gold Cup will replace its four groups of four with two eight-team groups, while retaining a 16-team field. According to the confederation's announcement, each side will face four different opponents in the opening phase, up from three matches under the previous system.

Watch the highlights:

The draw will use eight pots containing two teams apiece, determined by Concacaf's national-team rankings. Each group will receive one team from every pot. Four ranking bands within each group will then govern the fixtures, with every side playing one opponent from each band under a predetermined schedule.

The top four in each group will progress to the quarterfinals. Their group finishes will determine those pairings, matching higher-placed sides with lower-placed opponents. The knockout stage will remain single-match elimination through the semifinals and final.

Qualification follows the pathway Concacaf published in August: eight regional teams earn direct entry through the Nations League, seven qualify through preliminary ties, and Saudi Arabia completes the field as the invited team. Saudi Arabia also participated in 2025, with its return covered by a partnership providing for two Gold Cup appearances.

Four direct places go to the winners of the Nations League's League A quarterfinals, which are decided over two legs. The four League B group winners receive the other direct berths. Losing League A quarterfinalists retain a route to the tournament through the preliminary round instead of being eliminated from Gold Cup qualification.

Those preliminaries are scheduled for March 2027, with 14 teams contesting seven home-and-away ties. Each aggregate winner qualifies. Entrants include League A group third- and fourth-place finishers, the two best League B runners-up and four winners from a separate play-in round involving League A and League C teams. Concacaf's published rules pair the highest-ranked entrant with the lowest-ranked, continuing through the field, and give the higher-ranked side the second leg at home.

The finals run from June 17 to July 11, with the draw on April 8. Concacaf said further match-schedule, venue and ticketing information would follow.
