Como sign Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez on season-long loan

Como 1907 have signed Spanish goalkeeper Robert Sanchez from Chelsea on loan until the end of the 2026-27 season. Both clubs confirmed the completed move on Tuesday, with Chelsea describing the agreement as a season-long loan and Como welcoming the 28-year-old to their Serie A squad.

Chelsea said Sanchez leaves Stamford Bridge having made 112 appearances for the club. He joined the London side from Brighton and Hove Albion in August 2023, ending a long association with the south-coast club that began when he moved to Brighton's academy at the age of 15.

Como's announcement traced Sanchez's development through Levante's youth system and subsequent loan spells with Forest Green Rovers and Rochdale. He returned to Brighton and made his Premier League debut in November 2020 before establishing himself as the club's first-choice goalkeeper.

Sanchez later added major honours at Chelsea. Chelsea noted that he was part of the squads that won the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup. Como said he played six matches during Chelsea's victorious 2025 Club World Cup campaign and received the tournament's Golden Glove award. The Italian club also highlighted his UEFA Champions League experience.

At international level, Como said Sanchez has represented Spain's senior team and was selected in the national squads for UEFA Euro 2020 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The club also credited him with more than 170 Premier League appearances across his time in English football.

Como head coach Cesc Fabregas said Sanchez's high-level experience, physical presence and ability with the ball fit the team's preferred style. He specifically pointed to the goalkeeper's capacity to help build play from the back. Sanchez, in comments published by Como, said he had received a strong welcome and was eager to begin, adding that he would do his best to help improve the team. Neither club disclosed further financial terms of the loan.
