Cole Davies Dominates Nashville Supercross to Extend Championship Lead
Cole Davies solidified his position at the top of the 250 East Championship standings with a dominant victory at the Nashville Supercross, held at Nissan Stadium in Tennessee.
Davies and rival Seth Hammaker had both topped their respective heats earlier in the evening, setting up an anticipated feature race battle between the two championship contenders.
Daxton Bennick claimed the holeshot at the start of the 250 feature, with Hammaker and Davies making contact going into Turn 1. Drew Adams slotted into third early on before Davies and Hammaker worked their way past on Lap 2. Davies passed Bennick on Lap 3, then showed patience when passing Thrasher in the whoops on Lap 4, waiting for the opportunity before taking the position on Lap 5 as Thrasher faded to fourth.
Bennick moved up to second with Hammaker third as the race settled. On Lap 6, Hammaker took over second, cutting the gap to Davies to 1.7 seconds. The lead would not last long, however. On Lap 7, tragedy struck Hammaker when he clipped a Tuff Blox and crashed hard. Despite the heavy impact, he remounted and rode off in fourth place, now 13.2 seconds behind Davies.
Hammaker refused to give up. He caught Thrasher and Bennick on Lap 13, passing Thrasher two laps later to reclaim a podium position. But on Lap 15, disaster struck again when Hammaker and Bennick crashed together, allowing Thrasher to inherit second. Hammaker remounted once more, this time in third.
Henry Miller had held onto fifth for much of the race but slipped on Lap 11, handing the position to Devin Simonson.
Davies crossed the line first, extending his championship lead in convincing fashion. The victory showcased the consistency and racecraft that has made Davies the man to beat in the 250 East division this season.
For Hammaker, the night ended in frustration despite moments of brilliance. Two crashes in the same feature race severely damaged his chances of challenging for victory, though his ability to remount and fight back through the field demonstrated his determination.
The championship battle resumes at the next round, where Davies will look to further extend his advantage while Hammaker aims to put together a cleaner run.
