Billam-Smith joins Zuffa Boxing in landmark deal linking up with Sky Sports
British boxing’s cruiserweight division just got significantly more interesting. Chris Billam-Smith has completed a move to Zuffa Boxing, signing a multi-fight promotional deal with the UFC and WWE-backed powerhouse that will see his future fights broadcast live on Sky Sports.
The 35-year-old Bournemouth fighter brings an impressive 21-2 record to his new home, complete with former world championship pedigree and a reputation for delivering entertaining performances every time he steps between the ropes.
Billam-Smith captured the WBO cruiserweight title in memorable fashion back in 2023, dethroning Lawrence Okolie at the Vitality Stadium in his hometown before successfully defending it against Richard Riakporhe at Selhurst Park. His high-profile victory over Isaac Chamberlain the previous year — a fight that earned him the European championship — cemented his standing as one of Britain’s most exciting operators.
He lost his world title to Gilberto Ramirez but bounced back with a win over Zuffa stablemate Brandon Glanton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and now embarks on this new chapter with renewed determination.
“I’m really excited by this opportunity to work with Zuffa and Sky Sports,” Billam-Smith said. “When two powerhouses in the world of entertainment come together like this, you know it will be a success, and you want to be a part of that. This move is about proving I am the best in the world. I can’t wait to get back in the ring, headlining shows, live on Sky Sports.”
The deal represents another significant signing for Zuffa Boxing as the company continues to build a roster capable of challenging the established promotional companies. With the broadcast partnership with Sky Sports now confirmed, Billam-Smith’s fights will reach a substantial UK and Ireland audience.
Trained throughout his career by Shane McGuigan, one of Britain’s most respected coaches, Billam-Smith has collected British, Commonwealth, European, and world titles on his way to the top of the division. His ability to fill venues — whether in Bournemouth, London, or elsewhere — has made him a favourite among promoters and fans alike.
He has already expressed interest in potential future clashes with former rival Lawrence Okolie and heavy-hitting American Deontay Wilder, should those fights become realistic possibilities. For now, the focus is on announcing his debut under the Zuffa banner, with that reveal expected in the coming weeks.
The signing underlines Zuffa Boxing’s ambitions in the combat sports market and gives British boxing fans plenty to look forward to as the company begins to map out its first major event calendar.
