Chirewa seals Wolves comeback as Burnley reach 21 home league games without a win
Tawanda Chirewa scored the winner in a 2-1 victory at Turf Moor after Jamie Vardy had put Burnley ahead. Wolves moved into sixth place in the Championship.

Tawanda Chirewa scored in the 72nd minute as Wolves overturned an early deficit to beat Burnley 2-1 at Turf Moor on Friday. The Championship result left Burnley without a home league victory in 21 matches, while Wolves climbed to sixth, according to Sky Sports. Fer López had brought the visitors level before half-time after Jamie Vardy opened the scoring.

Watch the highlights:

Burnley’s official match report detailed a promising opening for the hosts. Igor went close after being supplied by Jacob Bruun Larsen, and José Sá then denied Vardy when Largie Ramazani found the striker inside the penalty area. Vardy converted his next opportunity in the 20th minute, meeting Bruun Larsen’s through ball with a finish across Sá for his first Burnley goal.

The hosts continued to threaten, with Sá saving another effort from Bruun Larsen before Wolves equalised in the 39th minute. Sean Neave recovered possession outside the box and provided the pass for López to score from close range. Burnley’s report recorded a spell of Wolves possession after the equaliser, with the teams entering the interval at 1-1.

Bruun Larsen shot over early in the second half after receiving a pass from Ramazani. At the other end, Grégoire Coudert turned a López free-kick behind. Burnley introduced Dastan Satpayev and Armando Broja around the hour, replacing Bruun Larsen and Vardy. But the decisive intervention came from the visitors’ bench rather than either of the home substitutes.

Sky Sports reported that Chirewa scored just 21 seconds after entering the match. Igor’s poor touch opened the opportunity, and Coudert got his gloves to the shot without preventing it from going in. The result gave Wolves their first victory in three games and handed Burnley a fifth league defeat of the season.

Speaking to Sky Sports afterwards, Burnley coach Nicky Hayen said individual mistakes had undermined his team’s work and made winning difficult. Wolves coach César Peixoto credited his players’ mentality. Burnley’s home league drought now comprises 11 defeats and 10 draws since their 2-0 victory over Leeds on October 18 last year, leaving the club set to pass a full year without another home league win.
