Chirewa winner lifts Wolves as Burnley reach 21 home league games without victory
Wolves recovered from Jamie Vardy’s opener to win 2–1 at Turf Moor, where Burnley’s long wait for a home league victory continued.

Tawanda Chirewa scored the decisive goal as Wolves beat Burnley 2–1 at Turf Moor on Friday, October 16, leaving the hosts without a victory in 21 home league matches. Sky Sports reported that the Championship result moved Wolves into sixth place and ended their two-game losing run.

Watch the highlights:

Jamie Vardy gave Burnley the lead in the 20th minute, finishing after Jacob Bruun Larsen played him through. Fer López equalised in the 39th minute when Kyle Walker lost possession near his own penalty area. Sean Neave supplied López, whose finish went in off the post before the interval.

According to Sky Sports, Burnley’s home sequence now comprises 11 defeats and 10 draws since their 2–0 Premier League victory over Leeds on October 18 last year. Manager Nicky Hayen said individual errors had undermined his team’s tactics, while acknowledging that players had apologised in the dressing room. He accepted those apologies but said they did not help the result.

Wolves’ own match report described a side reshaped by six starting changes for its third Championship fixture in six days. César Peixoto brought Neave into the team after Adam Armstrong suffered a back spasm. The visitors had gone into the match following a midweek home defeat by Bolton Wanderers.

After half-time, Wolves increasingly tested Grégoire Coudert. The Burnley goalkeeper pushed a López free-kick behind, then dealt with efforts from Rafiki Saïd and Jackson Tchatchoua during another spell of pressure. At the other end, Bruun Larsen had already missed an opportunity, shooting over after receiving a pass from Largie Ramazani.

Peixoto’s substitutions settled the contest. Mateus Mané intercepted Igor’s ball and Chirewa, newly introduced for Neave, took a touch towards goal before beating Coudert in the 72nd minute. The club identified it as Chirewa’s first Wolves goal. Fellow substitute Tommy Doyle subsequently shot wide after a Saïd delivery, leaving the visitors to protect their one-goal advantage. They did so to complete their first victory at Turf Moor in 16 years.
