Chirewa strikes seconds after coming on as Wolves beat Burnley 2-1
Tawanda Chirewa scored the winner moments after coming off the bench as Wolves overturned Burnley’s lead. The 2-1 victory moved Wolves to sixth in the Championship.

Tawanda Chirewa scored the winner as Wolverhampton Wanderers recovered from a goal down to beat Burnley 2-1 at Turf Moor on Friday, October 16. According to the EFL's match report, the substitute needed just 21 seconds on the pitch to make the decisive contribution in the Championship fixture.

Watch the highlights:

Burnley's official report described an opening period in which the hosts created several opportunities. Igor curled a shot narrowly wide before José Sá saved from Jamie Vardy following a move involving Largie Ramazani and Jacob Bruun Larsen. Vardy then opened the scoring in the 20th minute, converting Bruun Larsen's through ball for his first goal for the club.

The home side could not add to that advantage before the interval. Sá also stopped an effort from Bruun Larsen, while Wolves found an equaliser through Fer López. Burnley's account credited Sean Neave with winning possession outside the penalty area and setting up López to finish from close range, leaving the teams level at half-time.

Wolves' own report recorded chances at both ends after the restart. Bruun Larsen shot over following a pass from Ramazani, before Grégoire Coudert kept out a López free-kick. The visiting side also threatened from a sequence of corners, with Coudert called upon to stop efforts from Rafiki Saïd and Jackson Tchatchoua as Wolves searched for a second goal.

The breakthrough arrived in the 72nd minute. Wolves reported that Mateus Mané intercepted Igor's ball and Chirewa collected possession, advancing towards the penalty area before scoring with his second touch of the match. Coudert got a hand to the shot but could not prevent the goal. Tommy Doyle subsequently missed an opportunity to extend the lead after being found by Saïd.

The EFL reported that Burnley failed to create a meaningful late chance, leaving Wolves with all three points. The result moved the visitors to sixth in the table and left Burnley 21st at the end of the match. It also ensured Burnley's wait for a home win would extend to a year, following their midweek draw against Charlton.
