Chirewa's first Wolves goal seals 2-1 comeback win at Burnley
Tawanda Chirewa struck shortly after coming on as Wolves beat Burnley 2-1, overturning Jamie Vardy's opener with goals from Fer Lopez and Chirewa.

Tawanda Chirewa scored in the 72nd minute as Wolverhampton Wanderers recovered from a goal down to beat Burnley 2-1 at Turf Moor on Friday, October 16. Jamie Vardy's first goal for Burnley had put the hosts ahead, but Fer Lopez equalised before Chirewa settled the Championship match shortly after coming off the bench.

Burnley's official match report described an opening spell in which the home side repeatedly threatened. Igor curled an early effort wide, and Jose Sa saved from Vardy after Largie Ramazani's approach play and a dummy by Jacob Bruun Larsen. Vardy then converted Bruun Larsen's through ball in the 20th minute, giving Burnley a lead their early pressure had produced.

Sa also denied Bruun Larsen before Wolves drew level in the 39th minute. According to Wolves' report, Rafiki Said took possession from Kyle Walker and Sean Neave supplied Lopez, whose first-time finish went in off the post. It was the visitors' first attempt on target, leaving the teams level at the interval despite Burnley's stronger opening.

Burnley had another chance soon after the restart when Ramazani found Bruun Larsen, who shot over. At the other end, Gregoire Coudert turned a Lopez free-kick behind for a corner. Burnley's account also recorded Nicky Hayen's decision to introduce Dastan Satpayev and Armando Broja for Bruun Larsen and Vardy around the hour, before Wolves made the changes that brought their winner.

Wolves reported that Mateus Mane intercepted Igor's pass before Chirewa advanced towards the penalty area. The substitute needed only two touches to make his mark: one to move forward and another to shoot past Coudert, who got a hand to the ball but could not stop it. It was Chirewa's first Wolves goal and gave the visitors their first lead of the evening.

Tommy Doyle subsequently missed a chance to extend the advantage after being picked out by Said, but Burnley could not find an equaliser. Wolves said the result secured their first victory at Turf Moor in 16 years. It also provided a winning response to their midweek home defeat against Bolton Wanderers, with Cesar Peixoto having made six changes to his starting side.
