Chelsea Prepare Improved Joao Pedro Contract Through 2032
Chelsea are preparing an improved contract for Joao Pedro that would run through 2032 and include a two-year club option. The agreement has not yet been formally announced.

Chelsea striker Joao Pedro is set to receive an improved contract running through 2032, with the club holding an option for two additional years, according to BBC Sport. The agreement has not yet been formally confirmed, so the proposed terms remain subject to completion and an official announcement from the Premier League club.

Watch the highlights:

The 24-year-old Brazil international joined Chelsea from Brighton last summer. BBC Sport reports that the transfer was worth an initial £55 million, with a further £5 million in potential add-ons. At the time, Chelsea announced that the forward's contract would run until 2033, but the underlying agreement was through 2032 with an option for one more season.

That distinction is important to the new arrangement. The proposed contract would still have a guaranteed end date in 2032, while expanding Chelsea's option from one additional year to two. Because the club commonly includes option years when publicising contract lengths, an eventual announcement could describe Joao Pedro as being tied to Chelsea until 2034. The BBC report says the change amounts to improved terms rather than a shorter commitment.

Chelsea's approach is designed both to protect the club's investment and to reward performance. BBC Sport says Barcelona have shown interest in the striker. Chelsea maintain a structured wage system but allow players to move into higher salary bands after strong displays, an approach previously used with Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson. No salary figure for Joao Pedro's proposed deal was reported.

Joao Pedro's case is supported by his production since arriving. Last season he became Chelsea's first striker since Diego Costa to score 20 goals in a campaign without taking penalties. He also scored three times during Chelsea's Club World Cup-winning run last summer and has recorded eight goals across seven preseason matches.

The forward has also been given Chelsea's number nine shirt, with Liam Delap relinquishing it. Joao Pedro is expected to lead the attack when Chelsea open their Premier League season at Fulham on Monday, while new arrivals Danny Welbeck and Emmanuel Emegha are expected to provide cover. The club is also considering new contracts for other key players after the transfer window closes, with Levi Colwill and Estevao Willian among those identified in the BBC report.
