Chelsea beat Manchester United 5-0 with five different scorers in WSL win

Chelsea recorded a 5-0 Women's Super League victory at Manchester United on Sunday, with five players contributing goals at Leigh. The result gave Sonia Bompastor's side their first league win of the campaign and left United without a point after two matches under new manager Eva Olid.

According to Fox Sports Mexico's match report, Sjoeke Nusken opened the scoring in the 21st minute after Wieke Kaptein took advantage of a Dominique Janssen error and supplied the finish. Keira Walsh doubled Chelsea's lead 11 minutes later with a shot from outside the penalty area.

Lauren James made it 3-0 in the 61st minute after receiving a pass from Walsh. Ellie Carpenter added the fourth in the 65th minute, and Lucy Bronze completed the scoring deep into stoppage time. Fox Sports also reported that Rebeca Bernal made her United debut as a second-half substitute.

The margin reflected a substantial difference in attacking output. BBC Sport reported that Chelsea had 25 attempts, while United managed only two, with one on target. Elisabeth Terland produced United's first effort after 10 minutes; their other attempt came from substitute Lea Schuller 72 minutes later and was blocked.

Olid said United needed to retain possession more effectively rather than surrendering the ball and allowing transitions, according to the BBC. She also identified Chelsea's threat from wide positions as an area her side had struggled to contain. The defeat followed United's 2-1 loss to London City Lionesses on the opening weekend.

For Chelsea, the result followed a frustrating start against Aston Villa. The club's report on that 1-1 draw recorded 34 shots and 57 touches in the opposition penalty area, but James's opening goal was cancelled out by a late own goal. This time, Chelsea converted their attacking superiority into a decisive scoreline.

United next face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. Olid urged patience after the opening defeats, telling the BBC that players must learn from their mistakes and improve. Terland likewise said adapting to the manager's different approach would take time.
