Chelsea Complete 39 Departures in Record Summer Overhaul
Chelsea sold 17 players and loaned out another 22 during a transfer window that reshaped the squad. BBC Sport estimates the club spent £349 million and received £382 million in confirmed outgoing fees.

Chelsea completed 39 first-team departures during an extraordinary summer transfer window, combining 17 permanent sales with 22 loans. BBC Sport reported that the total does not include four young players released by the club, while Chelsea’s website still lists a 30-player first-team squad after the extensive turnover.

The London club also signed 11 players for a reported combined £349 million, including Morgan Rogers, Maxence Lacroix and Emiliano Martinez. BBC Sport’s calculations, produced with FootballTransfers.com founder Paul Macdonald, put confirmed income from outgoing deals at £382 million. Chelsea’s internal figures place the wider total above £500 million when loan fees and other elements are included, and the club estimates a transfer profit of about £120 million.

Those totals are not directly comparable in every respect. The £382 million calculation excludes possible loan options or obligations and future clauses tied to specific targets. Four outgoing loans contain options or obligations worth more than £140 million in total, according to the BBC report, meaning the final value will depend on which contractual conditions are met.

Enzo Fernandez supplied the largest confirmed sale, joining Manchester City for £125 million in a deal that matched the British transfer record. Nicolas Jackson moved to Aston Villa for £65 million, Marc Cucurella joined Real Madrid for £51.8 million, and Chelsea also sold Liam Delap and Andrey Santos in deals valued at about £50 million each.

Chelsea were also willing to trade with direct Premier League rivals. Mykhailo Mudryk moved to Tottenham on loan with a £75 million option, the first business between the clubs in 17 years and their first loan agreement in 34 years. Alejandro Garnacho joined Aston Villa on a loan containing a £43 million obligation. Chelsea additionally completed two transfers and three loans with sister club Strasbourg.

The activity follows three previous summers in which Chelsea recorded player sales of £236 million, £178 million and £289 million. Since the current ownership took control in 2022, the club has spent almost £2 billion across nine windows while generating more than £1 billion in sales, BBC Sport reported. The latest reshaping also added experienced players Jordan Henderson, Danny Welbeck and Martinez alongside younger recruits, while Moises Caicedo, Reece James and Joao Pedro signed new contracts.
