From NHL Dreams to Egg Yolk Hair Treatments: Chase Pearson's Unique Journey with Nottingham Panthers
Former NHL forward Chase Pearson combines unconventional wellness practices with championship ambitions as Nottingham Panthers pursue Challenge Cup glory.

Chase Pearson's lustrous hair catches the light as he discusses everything from egg yolk treatments to NHL dreams and personal tragedy, embodying the unique character that has made the 28-year-old Canadian forward one of the most authentic personalities in British ice hockey.

As Nottingham Panthers prepare for Wednesday's Challenge Cup final against Coventry Blaze, seeking their first triumph in the competition for a decade, Pearson represents the type of experienced leadership that championship teams require. However, his path to this moment has been anything but conventional.

The former Detroit Red Wings forward has found his most fulfilling hockey experience in the Elite Ice Hockey League, where he feels free to express his authentic self both on and off the ice. His social media presence features everything from step-by-step hair care guides using egg yolks to mindfulness advice and healthy living tips.

"I like to be myself, obviously," Pearson told BBC Sport. "I'm not for everyone and don't want to be for everyone. Being different is a good thing, right? Or I'd like to think so."

This authenticity stems partly from achieving a childhood dream that came with unexpected emotional complexity. When Pearson reached the NHL with Detroit in 2022, he followed in the footsteps of his father Scott, who played 292 games across 13 seasons with teams including Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, and Buffalo Sabres.

"He was my North Star," Pearson said of his father's influence. "I always knew that I wanted to play in the NHL and that was my aim from age eight or nine. Most kids do, but I was steadfast on it."

However, reaching hockey's pinnacle brought unexpected feelings. "On that plane back after the first game I was like 'wow, this is incredible', but what's next?" he reflected. "I didn't realise I'd feel like that, and I thought 'dang I've just spent 15 years to get here and now I'm thinking now what?'"

That moment of realization taught Pearson to value the journey over destinations, a philosophy that has shaped his current approach to hockey and life. His three NHL appearances represented fulfillment of a lifelong dream, though he acknowledges the reality that most players never achieve such heights.

"Most players are never going to be able to even get to the NHL, let alone have a career and stick there," he said. "So the fact that I got there was something huge for me."

Pearson's NHL achievement carried deeper emotional significance due to personal tragedy. His mother Laura, who had supported his hockey dreams throughout his development, took her own life before seeing him reach the professional pinnacle. Her memory remains a driving force in his career.

"I wanted to do it [get to the NHL] to be financially secure so I could help take care of her," Pearson explained, his voice steadying as he discussed the painful subject. "I never got that chance, but when I did get there, a lot of that moment I was absorbed in thinking 'wow, I'm here and this is cool'. And if you're religious, then she would have been watching down."

This loss has influenced Pearson's approach to social media and public expression. "A lot of what I post about comes through the lens of someone who's been through that and dealt with a lot of stuff," he said. "Most of what I do post is coming from a place of genuinely trying to put my thoughts out in the world in a way that I would like to have heard it from my position looking back."

After his NHL experience, Pearson's European journey took him through Slovakia and Austria before arriving in Nottingham, where he has discovered renewed passion for competition. The Panthers recently captured the European Continental Cup, and Wednesday's Challenge Cup final represents another opportunity for meaningful achievement.

"Understanding that helps you forge those connections with your team-mates and people in the organisation, not the medal you get to put up on your wall or eventually down in your basement where no-one ever sees it," Pearson observed about the value of shared experiences over individual accolades.

His unconventional wellness practices, including the famous egg yolk hair treatments, reflect a broader philosophy about authenticity and self-care that resonates beyond hockey circles. This approach has helped him find fulfillment in a career path that diverged from NHL stardom.

As the Panthers pursue Challenge Cup glory, Pearson embodies the type of veteran leadership that can prove decisive in championship moments. His unique journey from NHL dreams through personal tragedy to British ice hockey success demonstrates that fulfillment comes in many forms.
