Charlton Preserve Perfect Start as Southampton Score Five

Charlton Athletic moved to the top of the Championship with a 1-0 victory over Preston North End, extending their perfect start to three league matches. The Guardian reported that Karlan Grant scored the decisive goal, his first for Charlton since returning to the club on a free transfer from West Bromwich Albion.

The result left Charlton as the division's only team with a 100 percent record and marked the first time since the 1992-93 season that the club has won its opening three matches at this level. Manager Nathan Jones played down promotion talk after the game, stressing that the season remains in its early stages. Charlton next turn their attention to a match against West Brom on Wednesday.

Millwall had also entered the day with a perfect record, but that run ended in a 5-1 defeat at Southampton. Mark Sykes put Millwall ahead early before Southampton responded through two Cyle Larin goals, a Finn Azaz tap-in, a Leo Scienza penalty and Tom Fellows' first goal for the club. The win also erased Southampton's four-point deduction from the standings, according to The Guardian's roundup.

Wolverhampton Wanderers continued their unbeaten league start by coming from behind to beat Stoke City 4-1. Sam Gallagher gave Stoke a second-minute lead, but Rodrigo Gomes scored twice within three minutes before halftime. Raul Jimenez converted a penalty in the 55th minute, and Jordan James completed the scoring on his home debut with six minutes remaining. The victory placed Wolves second in the table.

Swansea City climbed to third with seven points from nine after a 3-0 win at Derby County. Joseph Opoku opened the scoring, Eom Ji-sung added a second before halftime and Ronald struck in second-half stoppage time. Queens Park Rangers also reached seven points by recovering from Ryoya Morishita's opener to beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 through goals from Paul Smyth and Jimmy Dunne.

Elsewhere, Middlesbrough beat West Brom 3-1 as Will Lankshear scored twice, taking his total to six goals in five games since joining from Tottenham. Norwich City earned their first league win of the campaign with a 4-1 victory over Burnley, powered by two goals each from Mo Toure and Andre Brooks. Lincoln City secured their first second-tier win in 65 years when Ben House scored in a 1-0 victory at previously unbeaten Bolton.
