Chantelle Cameron Unifies Titles With Decision Win Over Mikaela Mayer

Chantelle Cameron became a unified light-middleweight champion by defeating Mikaela Mayer via unanimous decision at BP Pulse Arena in Birmingham. BBC Sport reported that the British fighter added Mayer's WBA and WBC belts to the WBO title she already held after completing 10 competitive rounds on Saturday night.

Two judges scored the contest 97-93 for Cameron, while the third returned a 96-94 card. Mayer disputed the verdict in the ring, saying she believed she had outboxed Cameron and raising the possibility that the home setting influenced the outcome. Cameron rejected that suggestion during a heated post-fight exchange.

The fight was closely matched at the outset, with Mayer making the stronger early impression while Cameron initially worked as a counterpuncher. Cameron then increased her pressure, forcing Mayer toward the ropes in the fourth round and doing so again early in the fifth. According to the BBC's ringside account, Mayer struggled to establish her jab consistently as the contest developed.

Cameron's sustained work began to show physically on Mayer, who was bleeding and breathing heavily by the sixth round. A right hand to Mayer's chin in the seventh was identified by BBC Sport as one of the contest's most notable punches. Cameron was cut during the closing rounds but continued pressing through to the final bell.

The victory improved Cameron's professional record to 23 wins in 24 fights. She has remained unbeaten since losing her 2023 rematch with Katie Taylor, the only defeat of her career. Mayer, a three-weight world champion, suffered the third loss of her 25-fight professional career and relinquished the two belts she brought into Birmingham.

A rematch was discussed after the decision, but no next fight was confirmed. The result leaves Cameron holding three of the division's major titles, while IBF champion Oshae Jones retains the remaining belt referenced in the BBC report. For Cameron, the win also marked her first appearance at BP Pulse Arena since November 2024 and her first fight there since joining Most Valuable Promotions.
