Celtic sign Oliver Sorensen on loan from Parma with option to buy

Celtic have completed the signing of Parma midfielder Oliver Sorensen on a season-long loan, with an option to buy the 24-year-old. BBC Scotland reported the completed move on Tuesday as the Scottish champions continued work on their squad before two approaching registration deadlines.

Sorensen joined Parma in August 2025 after spending five years with Danish club Midtjylland. His temporary move to Glasgow gives Celtic another midfield option for the current campaign and leaves open the possibility of a permanent transfer once the loan ends. Neither the purchase option's value nor additional financial terms were disclosed in the report.

The Dane becomes Celtic's fourth first-team signing of the summer window. His arrival comes after Arne Engels was sold to West Ham United, creating a vacancy in a midfield that assistant manager Shaun Maloney said still required a player offering a different physical profile alongside the squad's technical qualities.

Maloney indicated before Wednesday's Scottish Premiership match against Aberdeen that Celtic were trying to strengthen several areas. A further left-back is among the club's priorities, with Celtic seeking competition for Scotland international Kieran Tierney. Maloney said the club wanted incoming players available for its European campaign, but he did not confirm any additional signing.

There could also be another change in midfield. Maloney acknowledged it was possible that Japan international Reo Hatate could leave, while stressing the player's contribution to Celtic. BBC Scotland noted that Hatate has scored 33 goals in 191 appearances since arriving in January 2022. Sorensen's signing therefore supplies depth while the composition of the squad remains unsettled.

Timing is central to Celtic's remaining business. The club must register its Europa League squad by 23:59 BST on Wednesday, one day before Scotland's transfer window closes at 17:00 BST on Thursday. Maloney said Celtic were looking at three or four key positions ahead of those cutoffs, although any further deals remained prospective at the time of the BBC report. Sorensen is the confirmed addition as Celtic balance their domestic schedule with preparations for European competition.
