Celtic and Rangers Agree No Away Fans for Rest of SPFL Season

Celtic and Rangers have agreed that no away supporters will attend their meetings in Scottish Professional Football League competitions for the remainder of the 2026-27 season. BBC Sport reported that the temporary arrangement applies to derbies in both the Scottish Premiership and the Premier Sports Cup after discussions involving the Glasgow clubs and the SPFL.

The decision immediately affects the Premier Sports Cup tie at Ibrox on September 13 and the league meeting at Celtic Park one week later. It also means any later SPFL meetings between the clubs this season will be staged without visiting fans, placing both league and League Cup fixtures under the same temporary policy.

The arrangement follows an independent Scottish Football Association review into events surrounding last season's Scottish Cup quarter-final at Ibrox on March 8. That match was marred by disorder and incursions onto the pitch involving supporters of both clubs after Celtic won a penalty shootout, according to the BBC report. About 8,000 Celtic supporters had attended the cup tie.

That visiting allocation was substantially larger than those used for recent league derbies because Scottish Cup ticket rules differ from SPFL arrangements. The Scottish FA announced in August that Celtic and Rangers must each play their next home match in the Scottish Cup behind closed doors, a separate sanction arising from the review of the Ibrox incidents.

Before the wider no-away-fans agreement was reached, Rangers had proposed giving Celtic 300 tickets for the September 13 Premier Sports Cup match. Celtic rejected that reduced offer. Rangers had previously said the club planned to implement the agreed allocation and was taking steps to do so, but the subsequent talks produced a season-long temporary position for SPFL competitions.

The policy does not alter the venues or scheduled dates identified in the report; it changes who can attend in the away sections. For the immediate cup and league derbies, Ibrox and Celtic Park will therefore contain only home supporters. The agreement addresses the rest of this season, while the reports and club statements did not confirm what allocation policy will apply beyond 2026-27.
