Cassandre Beaugrand Claims Fourth Straight World Triathlon Win

Cassandre Beaugrand extended her winning run in the World Triathlon Championship Series with victory in Weihai, holding off Britain's Beth Potter after a close women's race in China. BBC Sport reported that the French Olympic champion earned her fourth consecutive series win and maintained a perfect record for the season.

Beaugrand completed the race in 1:49:20 after making the decisive move during the final kilometre of the 10km run. Potter, the Olympic bronze medallist, crossed the line six seconds later. Germany's Lisa Tertsch took third place, finishing another 18 seconds behind the British athlete.

The race stayed tightly grouped through its early stages. Beaugrand emerged from the two-lap, 1,500-metre swim in third position, behind Britain's Tilly Anema and Brazil's Vittoria Lopez. The cycling leg did not create a lasting separation at the front, with a group of more than 30 riders coming together.

Beaugrand, Potter and Tertsch then established themselves at the head of the race on the run. Tertsch began to lose ground on the final lap, leaving Beaugrand and Potter to contest the victory. Potter continued to press the pace, but Beaugrand's late acceleration opened the six-second winning margin. The final running segment, rather than the swim or bike leg, separated the leading contenders after the large cycling group converged.

Beaugrand said after the race that the victory had not been easy. She reported feeling strong in the swim and on the bike but described the run as difficult because Potter was pushing the pace. The 29-year-old said she focused on staying with the leader's rhythm before relying on her finishing speed.

Switzerland's Max Studer won the men's race in 1:41:08. Spain's David Cantero del Campo placed second, 10 seconds behind Studer, while Canada's Tyler Mislawchuk was third after finishing a further seven seconds back. The series has one more regular-season event in the Czech Republic on September 13 before the Grand Final in Spain on September 23.
