Casandra Alexander Builds Five-Shot Lead at Women's Irish Open

Casandra Alexander opened a five-shot lead at the Women's Irish Open after a second-round 66 took her to 15 under par at the K Club. BBC Sport reported that the South African reached the halfway point on 129, with Czech player Sara Kouskova and American Brianna Navarrosa tied for second on 10 under.

Alexander began Friday as the overnight leader following a bogey-free opening round of 63. Starting her second round on the 10th hole, she made an eagle at the par five and followed it with consecutive birdies. She dropped a shot at the 13th but responded with a birdie two at the 17th before turning to the front nine.

A second eagle, this time at the third hole, strengthened Alexander's position at the top of the leaderboard. She made another bogey at the sixth and then recovered the shot with a birdie at the seventh, completing a six-under round. Across the first 36 holes, the 27-year-old recorded 13 birdies, two eagles and two bogeys.

Kouskova posted a second-round 68 and Navarrosa shot 65 to share the nearest-challenger position. Sweden's Louise Rydqvist and Caroline Viden were another stroke back at nine under, while fellow Swede Lisa Pettersson held sixth place on eight under. Germany's Alexandra Foersterling reached seven under, two shots ahead of a four-player group tied for eighth.

Canice Screene led the Irish challenge in that eighth-place group after a 67 moved her to five under. Her round contained seven birdies and two bogeys. Aine Donegan slipped to two under after a 73, while Leona Maguire also finished the day at two under. Maguire had reached four under for the tournament before bogeys on two of her final three holes.

BBC Sport's published leaderboard also placed England's Lily May Humphreys and Alice Hewson at four under. Annabel Dawson of the Isle of Man, England's Gemma Clews, Scotland's Hannah Darling and Wales' Lydia Hall were tied at three under. With two rounds complete, Alexander held the clear advantage after producing two distinct scoring rounds: an opening 63 without a bogey and a Friday 66 featuring both eagles and bogeys.
