Carrick urges City case resolution as Kompany stands by playing achievements
Michael Carrick has called for Manchester City's financial case to be resolved quickly, while former City captain Vincent Kompany said the ruling against the club had not changed his pride in his playing achievements. The two managers addressed the case on Friday, with City's appeal still outstanding.
Watch the highlights:
An independent commission found that City breached more than 100 Premier League financial regulations across the nine seasons from 2009-10 to 2017-18, AFP reported. The club has appealed against the decision. City have denied wrongdoing, according to The Times of India, leaving the outcome of the proceedings unresolved despite the commission's findings.
Carrick, now Manchester United's head coach, said the case had affected him personally and left questions unanswered, The Times of India reported. He acknowledged that he could not know how or when it would end. His call for a quicker conclusion came with that qualification, rather than a prediction about what the appeal would decide or what should happen next.
The former United midfielder also discussed the limits of awarding medals retrospectively. Carrick was part of the United team that finished level on points with City in 2011-12 but lost the title on goal difference. He said receiving an award later could not reproduce the emotions of winning at the time, according to the same report.
Kompany, now in charge of Bayern Munich, placed the emphasis on his experiences as a player. AFP reported that he remained proud of what City achieved on the pitch during his 11 years at the club. His spell from 2008 to 2019 brought four Premier League titles and several domestic cups, and he is commemorated by a statue outside the Etihad Stadium.
Asked about matters away from the pitch, Kompany said players were not involved in that side of the club and that his attention was on coaching Bayern and preparing for their upcoming matches. His comments concerned his playing career and current responsibilities; City, meanwhile, are challenging the commission's ruling through their appeal.
