Caroline Dubois Outpoints Amelia Moore to Retain Lightweight Titles

Caroline Dubois retained her WBC and WBO lightweight titles with a unanimous-decision victory over Amelia Moore at bp pulse LIVE in Birmingham on Saturday. BBC Sport reported that the judges scored the 10-round contest 99-90, 99-90 and 98-91 for the British champion, who remained unbeaten while handing Moore her first professional defeat.

Dubois established control early with her jab and straight left hand, repeatedly working to Moore’s head and body. The champion produced the fight’s only knockdown in the fifth round, sending Moore to the canvas with a powerful left. Moore rose promptly and completed the distance, but she was unable to overturn the wide deficit reflected on all three scorecards.

The challenger entered with only four professional bouts but brought an extensive amateur background, including two United States national championships. BBC Sport noted that Moore also held a four-inch height advantage. Dubois nevertheless dictated much of the action, using her greater professional experience to close the distance and prevent Moore from building sustained offense.

The result moved Dubois to 14 wins and one draw, with five stoppages, according to The Ring. Moore’s record fell to 4-1 with one stoppage. For Dubois, it was a successful defense of the two major lightweight belts she unified by defeating Terri Harper on points in London in April.

Attention shifted toward a possible future fight with Alycia Baumgardner after the decision. Baumgardner watched from ringside and exchanged words with Dubois following the bout, Sky Sports and BBC Sport reported. The American, a former undisputed super-featherweight champion, is scheduled to move up to lightweight to face IBF champion Elif Nur Turhan on November 8. Any meeting with Dubois remains dependent on that result and has not been finalized.

The defense was also Dubois’s first bout since changing trainers. She ended her partnership with Shane McGuigan, who guided her to the WBC and WBO championships, and relocated her camp to Los Angeles to work with Manny Robles. Saturday’s clear points win preserved her titles and her unbeaten record, while keeping open the possibility of another lightweight unification fight if Baumgardner wins her divisional debut.
