Carlota Ciganda seals Solheim Cup victory for Europe at Bernardus

Europe secured the 2026 Solheim Cup at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands on Sunday, September 13, with Carlota Ciganda's singles victory over Jennifer Kupcho taking the hosts beyond the winning threshold. The official tournament scoring service recorded a 4-and-2 result for Ciganda and a 15-11 European lead with 26 of the competition's 28 matches completed.

That total put Europe beyond the 14.5 points required to win the trophy, regardless of the remaining results. The United States, as holders, needed 14 points to retain it. Ciganda's match finished on the 16th hole, leaving the final overall margin still to be settled even though the outcome of the team contest was already decided.

The LPGA's leaderboard also confirmed several of the European singles wins that built the platform for victory. Charley Hull defeated Megan Khang 3 and 2, while Linn Grant beat Angel Yin 4 and 3. Nanna Koerstz Madsen overcame Allisen Corpuz 2 and 1, and Nastasia Nadaud recorded a 3-and-2 win against Andrea Lee. Those completed results supplied four full points on a day that began without either team ahead.

Julia Lopez Ramirez added another point by beating Yealimi Noh 3 and 2, and Lottie Woad defeated Auston Kim 2 and 1. The American victories included Nelly Korda's 4-and-2 success against Mimi Rhodes and Alison Lee's one-up win over Esther Henseleit. Europe nevertheless accumulated enough singles points to settle the contest before every match had finished.

The decisive session followed a Saturday in which neither side managed to establish an overnight advantage. According to the tournament organiser's report, Europe won the morning foursomes 3-1, but the Americans recovered to end the day at 8-8. Kupcho and Lindy Duncan supplied a crucial one-up four-ball victory over Celine Boutier and Ciganda after trailing with two holes remaining.

Kupcho made birdies on both closing holes in that Saturday match to complete the turnaround. Sunday's singles brought a different outcome against Ciganda, whose win helped deliver the trophy to a European team captained by Anna Nordqvist. Angela Stanford's United States side could no longer retain the Cup once Europe reached 15 points.
