Cardinals stun Rams as Chiefs stay unbeaten in NFL week six
Chad Ryland kicked a career-best six field goals, including the winner as time expired, as the Arizona Cardinals beat the Los Angeles Rams 18-16 on Sunday. According to BBC Sport's week-six report, the result lifted Arizona above the Rams in the NFC West, while the Kansas City Chiefs maintained their unbeaten record with victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.
Watch the highlights:
Ryland supplied every Arizona point in a game that turned twice in the closing minute. Colby Parkinson's touchdown and an extra point from punter Ethan Evans put the Rams ahead with 47 seconds remaining, but Arizona responded in time for Ryland to settle it. Evans had taken over kicking duties after Blake Grupe injured a knee making a tackle on the kick-off following his opening field goal.
The Cardinals moved to 2-4, with both victories coming at SoFi Stadium after their week-one win over the Chargers. The Rams, who had lost to Buffalo in overtime the previous Monday, dropped to the bottom of a division also containing unbeaten San Francisco and defending champions Seattle. Los Angeles had signed Grupe after releasing Harrison Mevis earlier in the week.
Kansas City beat the Chargers 22-6 as Kenneth Walker rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Patrick Mahomes recorded his 100th regular-season victory in his 131st start, matching Tom Brady's record. Walker's 665 rushing yards lead the league and, BBC Sport reported, are a record for a player's first five games with a new team. The Chiefs joined Minnesota at 5-0.
Philadelphia's difficulties continued with a 25-14 home defeat by Carolina, its fourth consecutive loss. Tanner McKee made his third NFL start with Jalen Hurts on injured reserve, while Panthers tight end Tommy Tremble scored his first two touchdowns of the season. The Eagles had not lost four straight games under Nick Sirianni, who became head coach in 2021.
At Wembley, Houston defeated Jacksonville 34-31 on Ka'imi Fairbairn's field goal despite a landmark performance from Travis Hunter. The Jaguars player caught a touchdown pass and intercepted a pass in the fourth quarter, becoming the first player to achieve both in one game since Brian Dawkins in 2002. Houston earned its second victory of the season; Jacksonville fell to 4-2.
