Canada score 10 tries to beat Scotland 64-26 in WXV opener

Canada defeated Scotland 64-26 at Hive Stadium on Saturday, opening their WXV campaign with 10 tries. BBC Sport reported that Lizzie Gibson and Olivia Apps each scored twice. Canada led 31-12 at half-time; Scotland finished with four tries.

Gibson and Apps supplied Canada’s first two tries before Evie Gallagher answered for Scotland. Gibson then scored again, followed by Brittanny Kassil and Julia Omokhuale. Scotland’s second came through Shona Campbell after debutant Rhea Clarke won possession, according to the BBC’s account.

Taylor Perry, Apps, Justine Pelletier, Gabrielle Senft and Test debutant Savannah Bauder scored Canada’s second-half tries. Lana Skeldon and Rhona Lloyd replied. Kassil received a 20-minute red card for a high tackle on Meryl Smith, BBC Sport reported.

The result added another Canadian victory to a recent sequence between the teams. Rugby Canada’s squad announcement noted that their previous meeting came in the final round of pool matches at the 2025 World Cup. Canada won that encounter 40-19 to finish first in the pool. Coach Kevin Rouet’s side prepared in Ireland before moving on to the Scotland fixture.

Scottish Rugby’s match information places this meeting within the inaugural WXV Global Series, a competition bringing together the world’s top 12 teams for home-and-away matches over two seasons. The international windows fall around September and October. Scotland and Canada have also met at four World Cups, in 1994, 2002, 2010 and 2025, giving the new series an established international rivalry. Their previous encounter on Scottish soil was much closer: Canada won 28-25 at Scotstoun in 2018, Scottish Rugby noted in its information for the Edinburgh fixture.

Canada’s European programme includes England and France as well as Scotland, according to Scottish Rugby. The next assignment is England at Sandy Park, while Scotland host New Zealand at Hive Stadium, BBC Sport reported. Both matches are next Saturday. Canada’s route to the 2025 World Cup final included victories over New Zealand, Australia and Scotland before defeat by England.
