Caluori scores on return as Saracens end Bristol unbeaten start with 30-7 win
Saracens ended Bristol Bears' unbeaten start to the 2026-27 Premiership season with a 30-7 bonus-point victory at StoneX Stadium on Saturday. Noah Caluori scored on his return from wrist surgery, while Alex O'Driscoll, Jack Bracken and a penalty try completed the home side's scoring haul. BBC Sport reported that it was Saracens' second league win of the campaign.
Watch the highlights:
Caluori had missed the opening two games after an 18-try breakthrough season. He made an immediate impact when Saracens won possession in midfield and moved the ball wide for him to finish in the corner. Owen Farrell added two penalties before half-time, leaving Bristol 11-0 behind despite a spell playing against 14 men following Olamide Sodeke's yellow card.
Saracens' official match report highlighted important defensive interventions before the break. Toby Knight won possession after Max Clark carried into midfield without nearby support, and Bracken intercepted a pass to prevent a late Bristol try. Those stops preserved the hosts' lead, with Bristol unable to turn their opportunities into points during the opening half.
The visitors briefly brought themselves back into contention after the restart. According to the club report, Harry Randall attacked down the blindside and exchanged passes with Aidan Boshoff before running in to score. James Williams converted, narrowing the gap to four points. Saracens responded through replacement prop O'Driscoll, whose try and Farrell's conversion restored an 11-point cushion.
The decisive further damage came around the hour. Saracens drove a maul towards the line from a close-range lineout, and Lovejoy Chawatama was sin-binned for bringing it down, with a penalty try awarded. Bracken then crossed on the left to secure the fourth-try bonus point. Bristol scored nothing further as the hosts protected their advantage through the remaining stages.
Speaking to BBC Radio Bristol, Bears director of rugby Pat Lam praised his team's physical commitment and defensive work but identified attacking execution as the central problem. He pointed to misplaced passes and missed chances, including the opportunity before half-time. The defeat extended Bristol's winless Premiership record at Saracens' home to eight visits, according to BBC Sport.
