Slovenia overturn Scotland lead to win 2-1 at Hampden
Aljosa Matko and Danijel Sturm scored after half-time as Slovenia recovered from Ryan Christie’s opener to beat Scotland.

Slovenia recovered from a half-time deficit to defeat Scotland 2-1 at Hampden Park on Tuesday in Nations League Group B1. According to Sky Sports, second-half goals from Aljosa Matko and Danijel Sturm left Scotland third in the group and manager Sébastien Pocognoli still seeking his first home victory.

Watch the highlights:

Ryan Christie put Scotland ahead in the 31st minute, finishing with a backheel after Jack Hendry had headed against a post. The hosts also needed defensive interventions: Hendry cleared Adam Cerin’s effort near the line, while Andy Robertson blocked a chance for Zan Vipotnik before the interval.

Matko equalised after the break, before having another effort ruled out for offside. He then supplied Sturm for the winning goal. Scotland’s late attempts to respond included penalty appeals involving Findlay Curtis and Josh McPake, but neither brought a spot-kick, Sky Sports reported.

The defeat followed a more encouraging result for Pocognoli in Skopje on Saturday. The Scottish FA’s account of that match records a 2-0 victory over North Macedonia, with Kieron Bowie opening the scoring inside the first ten minutes and John McGinn adding a second-half penalty. Scott McKenna was sent off late on. Earlier in this Nations League campaign, Scotland and Slovenia had drawn 0-0 in Ljubljana, leaving neither side able to make a winning start in their opening meeting.

Robertson’s appearance at Hampden came shortly after a significant personal milestone. The Scottish FA confirmed that the captain earned his 100th Scotland cap against North Macedonia, becoming only the second man to reach that total after Kenny Dalglish. Robertson has captained the national side since 2018 and made his senior international debut as a teenager in a friendly away to Poland.

Scotland’s remaining group fixtures are both scheduled for November. The Scottish FA lists a home meeting with North Macedonia at Hampden on November 13, followed by a trip to face Switzerland in St Gallen on November 16. Those matches will conclude the group programme after Tuesday’s setback.
