Burrage and Dudeney reach Wrexham Open second round with straight-set wins
Jodie Burrage and Alicia Dudeney won their Wrexham Open singles openers after both claimed titles in Birmingham last week.

Jodie Burrage and Alicia Dudeney advanced to the second round of the Lexus Wrexham Open with straight-set victories on Wednesday. BBC Sport reported that the British pair joined Hannah Klugman in reaching Thursday’s action at the W100 tournament at Wrexham Tennis and Padel Centre.

Watch the highlights:

Burrage defeated the Netherlands’ Eva Vedder, ranked 180 in the world, 6-2 7-5. Her next opponent is fourth seed Noma Noha Akugue of Germany, giving the Briton a seeded rival in the second round after her opening win.

Dudeney, the British number seven and world number 232, beat Germany’s Tessa Johanna Brockmann 6-4 6-4. She will face Switzerland’s Susan Bandecchi, the seventh seed, as both British winners move on without having conceded a set in their opening matches.

Dudeney arrived in Wales after winning the Lexus British Pro Series Birmingham singles title. According to the LTA’s report published on Monday, that success was her sixth singles trophy of 2026 and her fourth on home soil. She completed the Birmingham tournament without losing a set, adding another title before turning her attention to Wrexham.

Her Birmingham run included a semi-final victory over defending champion and fourth seed Mika Stojsavljevic. In the final, Dudeney overcame French eighth seed Manon Leonard 6-4 6-3 in an hour and 26 minutes. A seventh-game break decided the opening set, and she recovered from a break down in the second to secure the championship.

Burrage also brought recent title-winning form from Birmingham, where she partnered Australia’s Lizette Cabrera to the doubles trophy. The LTA reported that the pair did not drop a set, defeating top seeds Esther Adeshina and Angella Okutoyi in the semi-finals before beating second seeds Victoria Allen and Stephanie Visscher 6-4 7-5 in the final.

Elsewhere in Wrexham, Anna Siskova recovered to beat Alina Charaeva 4-6 6-3 6-2. Reigning champion Mimi Xu is not defending her title, having instead chosen to play the W75 event in Saguenay, Canada, according to BBC Sport.
