Brydon Carse faces cricket conduct charge but remains eligible for England
The Cricket Regulator has charged Brydon Carse over the Derby incident. He remains eligible for England selection while the disciplinary process continues.

Brydon Carse remains eligible to play for England after the Cricket Regulator charged him over an incident outside a Derby nightclub, BBC Sport reported on Friday. The case will go before the independent Cricket Discipline Panel, with the pace bowler able to respond through cricket's disciplinary process before an outcome is reached.

Watch the highlights:

The allegation concerns regulation 3.2 of the England and Wales Cricket Board's professional conduct rules. It covers improper behaviour, conduct harmful to cricket's interests and actions that could damage the reputation of the ECB, the sport or its players. The regulator declined further comment while proceedings continue, and the ECB said it would not prejudge the result.

The disciplinary charge follows a separate police investigation that ended without action against Carse. Sky Sports reported on September 18 that Derbyshire Police had closed their inquiry into an alleged assault. Officers had attended Molly Malones in Derby's Wardwick in the early hours of August 23, when a man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and subsequently de-arrested after officers took his details.

According to the police account carried by Sky Sports, officers pursued the assault allegations, identified and spoke to the alleged victim, then took no further action. Carse, 31, had been out with Durham players following their County Championship victory at Derbyshire. The police decision left cricket's regulatory process to assess his conduct separately; Friday's announcement concerns that sporting process rather than a criminal prosecution.

Carse was removed from England's squad before the second Test against Pakistan and also missed the third. Sky Sports reported that he continued representing Durham during the investigation and helped the county secure the Championship's Division Two title. His absence from international squads has therefore run alongside continued participation in domestic cricket, rather than an interruption to all competitive appearances.

BBC Sport reported that Carse was again omitted on Thursday, this time from England's squad for the one-day tri-series in Pakistan later this month. Selection decisions are understood to be made for each tour. His two-year central contract, which runs until autumn 2027, remains unchanged by the charge, and England are supporting him through the process.
