Bryce Leads Scotland to Nine-Wicket Win Over Netherlands

Scotland Women levelled their one-day international series against the Netherlands with a nine-wicket victory in a rain-affected second match at New Williamfield in Stirling. The BBC reported that stand-in captain Sarah Bryce led the chase with an unbeaten 70 as Scotland reached 130-1 in 16.2 overs, comfortably passing the visitors’ 129-9 from 32 overs.

The match had originally been scheduled for Sunday before weather intervened, and it was reduced to 32 overs per side when play went ahead on Monday. Scotland chose to field and quickly took control through Darcey Carter, who dismissed Netherlands openers Phebe Molkenboer and Sanya Khurana. Carter finished with 2-18 from six overs.

Abtaha Maqsood then removed Merel Dekeling and Rosalie Lawrence in quick succession, leaving the Netherlands 39-4. She added the wicket of Iris Zwilling and returned Scotland’s best figures of 3-20 from seven overs. The early breakthroughs prevented the visitors from building the kind of opening platform that had helped them in the first match.

Babette de Leede provided the Netherlands’ main resistance, scoring 58 from 64 balls before being run out. Caroline de Lange added 20, but no other batter reached that mark as the innings closed on 129-9. The total also included 12 wides, while Scotland used six bowlers during the shortened contest.

Scotland’s reply began with a setback when Maryam Faisal was dismissed after four balls. Bryce and Carter then put together the decisive unbeaten partnership. Bryce struck 11 fours in her 70 from 59 deliveries, while Carter completed a strong all-round performance with 33 not out from 37 balls. The Netherlands conceded 17 wides during the chase, and Bryce finished the match with a boundary.

The result made the three-match series 1-1 after the Netherlands had won the opening ODI in Glasgow by 58 runs on Friday. According to the BBC, the teams are due to return to the same Stirling venue on Tuesday for the series decider. Scotland enter that match with momentum after completing their target with 94 balls unused.
