Bruno Fernandes Hat-Trick Powers Manchester United Past Ipswich

Bruno Fernandes scored a hat-trick as Manchester United recovered from an early deficit to beat Ipswich Town 5-2 in their first Premier League home match of the season. The result gave Michael Carrick’s side an emphatic response after a 2-0 defeat by Hull in their previous outing.

Ipswich went ahead in the 29th minute through Leif Davis. The visitors had threatened United with the pace of Julio Enciso, Issa Diop and Daizen Maeda, and Davis’s opener rewarded a bright spell from Gary O’Neil’s team at Old Trafford.

The contest shifted shortly before half-time. Marcelino Núñez slipped, allowing Fernandes to take advantage and drive a left-footed finish into the net. That equalizer sent United into the interval level and established the platform for a decisive second-half surge. Fernandes’s goals arrived on either side of half-time, turning an Ipswich lead into the central story of United’s comeback.

United then scored three goals in a 12-minute stretch from the 56th to the 68th minute. A Jacob Hargreaves own goal put the hosts in front before Fernandes struck twice more, completing his hat-trick and taking the match beyond Ipswich. Bryan Mbeumo later added United’s fifth goal to complete the home side’s scoring.

Ipswich did find a late response through substitute Chuka Akpom in added time. Enciso created the opportunity after a defensive mistake by Lisandro Martínez, but the goal did not threaten United’s control of the result after their rapid sequence of second-half strikes.

His three-goal performance ensured that United’s first league appearance at Old Trafford this campaign ended with five goals and three points, while Ipswich were left to reflect on a match that changed sharply around the interval. Despite the convincing margin, United also conceded from defensive openings in both halves, giving Carrick clear areas to examine alongside the attacking improvement.
