Browns rally past Ravens 13-10 to take AFC North lead
Cleveland moved to the top of the AFC North after Andre Szmyt kicked a 37-yard field goal on the final play to secure a 13-10 home victory over Baltimore on Sunday. The Browns recovered from a 10-0 deficit to improve to 4-2. BBC Sport reported that Cleveland leads the division on a tiebreaker, with the Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers also holding 4-2 records.
Watch the highlights:
Baltimore took control early but failed to score after its opening two possessions. Tyler Huntley found rookie tight end Josh Cuevas for his first NFL touchdown, before Tyler Loop added a 34-yard field goal. According to the Ravens' official game report, seven of their final nine possessions ended in punts; the other two produced a lost fumble and a missed field goal.
Cleveland's official recap described an offence that struggled throughout the first half, gaining just 46 net yards and punting on all five possessions. Szmyt's 48-yard field goal in the third quarter finally put the Browns on the scoreboard. The defence kept the deficit manageable, preventing Baltimore from adding to its early advantage and leaving Cleveland within a touchdown.
The decisive turnover came in the fourth quarter, when Carson Schwesinger forced Derrick Henry to fumble and Tyson Campbell recovered at Baltimore's 35-yard line. Seven plays later, Audric Estime scored from two yards out to help tie the game at 10-10. Estime had joined Cleveland from Minnesota's practice squad earlier in the week, according to BBC Sport and the Browns' report.
Szmyt subsequently missed a 48-yard attempt, ending a run of 25 successful field goals, but received another opportunity after Deshaun Watson connected with Jerry Jeudy for 33 yards on third-and-five. Cleveland's recap said three runs followed before the winning kick. It was Szmyt's second game-winning field goal in three weeks, BBC Sport reported.
Baltimore's defensive pressure ultimately did not preserve its lead. The Ravens' report recorded a season-high five sacks, while Henry finished with 58 rushing yards on 17 carries and Huntley completed 19 of 31 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown. Cleveland finished narrowly ahead in total yardage, 237-235. The Browns next travel to Tennessee, having turned another close finish into a divisional victory.
