Broncos Country Underwhelmed as Denver Takes Conservative Approach to Second Wave of Free Agency
The Denver Broncos have focused on retaining their core players rather than making splashy signings, leaving fans disappointed as quality free agents like Jauan Jennings, Stefon Diggs, and Cam Jordan remain available.

The Denver Broncos approach to free agency has left many in Broncos Country feeling underwhelmed as the organization continues prioritizing retention over external acquisitions, despite significant needs remaining on both sides of the ball following their AFC Championship game appearance last season.

General Manager George Paton signaled the team would be aggressive in free agency, but that aggressive approach has largely translated to running it back with the core group of players who helped Denver reach the conference championship. While roster continuity has merit, the conservative strategy has frustrated fans who expected more significant additions.

The major theme throughout free agency has been maintaining the foundation that propelled the Broncos to unexpected success last season. However, this approach has created obvious gaps that remain unaddressed as quality free agents continue signing elsewhere or commanding premium prices that Denver appears unwilling to pay.

The wide receiver position represents the most glaring need for additional depth behind their established core of Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims Jr., Troy Franklin, and Pat Bryant. While these four players provide a solid foundation, the Broncos desperately need a fifth option to give quarterback Bo Nix more weapons entering his crucial second season.

Three intriguing possibilities remain available in the second wave of free agency. Jauan Jennings brings the toughness and positional versatility that aligns perfectly with head coach Sean Payton offensive philosophy. The veteran receiver demonstrated his value throughout last season with consistent production and reliable hands.

Stefon Diggs represents a more explosive option, with reports suggesting Denver had interest in the former Bills star before he was traded to New England last offseason. Diggs elite route-running ability and proven chemistry with young quarterbacks could provide the dynamic element the Broncos passing attack currently lacks.

Deebo Samuel offers another intriguing possibility after being linked to Denver before ultimately landing with Washington. Samuel versatility as both a receiver and rushing threat would give Payton additional creative options in designing offensive packages that maximize player strengths.

The departure of defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers to Tennessee creates significant concerns about pass rush depth. While last years draft pick Sai'vion Jones and Eyioma Uwazurike will compete for increased roles, the Broncos could benefit from veteran experience to maintain their defensive front effectiveness.

Cam Jordan emerges as an obvious candidate given his extensive history with Payton in New Orleans. Despite turning 37 years old this season, Jordan posted 10.5 sacks last year and has missed just two games throughout his entire 15-year career. His durability and production make him an attractive short-term solution.
