Brighton Sign Canada Striker Promise David on Season-Long Loan
Brighton have signed Canada striker Promise David from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on a season-long loan that includes an obligation to buy. The 25-year-old joins after scoring 41 goals in 82 appearances for the Belgian club.

Brighton have signed Canada striker Promise David from Belgian club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on a season-long loan. BBC Sport reports that the agreement contains an obligation to buy, with the permanent part of the deal reported to be worth £22 million. The move gives the Premier League club a forward who has produced consistently in Belgium and already has experience in European competition and international football.

Watch the highlights:

David, 25, leaves Union SG after recording 41 goals and nine assists across 82 appearances since joining the Brussels club in 2024. His most productive campaign came in 2024-25, when he scored 24 goals as Union won their first Belgian league championship in 90 years. Those numbers established him as a prominent scorer during a successful period for the club.

The transfer continues an unusually varied career path. David began playing in Canada before spells in Croatia and the United States. He then represented two clubs in Malta's top division, moved to Estonian side Nomme Kalju and subsequently joined Union SG. Brighton are now bringing him to England after two seasons with the Belgian champions.

David also arrives with recent experience for Canada at the World Cup. He appeared as a substitute in four of the national team's five matches at the tournament. His goal came in Canada's 2-1 group-stage defeat by Switzerland, adding a World Cup strike to the club record he built in Belgium.

Brighton sporting director Mike Cave said the club had monitored David for some time and described him as a specialist striker with strong physical qualities and a record of scoring. Cave also said Brighton believe David's exposure to international matches and European club competition can be useful this season. He added that the forward is entering what the club considers his prime playing years and can continue developing in Brighton's environment.

David joins as Brighton prepare for two competitive assignments in quick succession. The club are scheduled to face Tromso in a Europa Conference League play-off on Thursday, with kickoff listed for 18:00 BST. Brighton then begin their Premier League campaign away to Aston Villa on Sunday at 14:00 BST. BBC Sport did not state whether David would be available for either fixture.
