Brighton Reject Liverpool's £50m Bid for Yankuba Minteh
Brighton have rejected a £50m bid from Liverpool for winger Yankuba Minteh, according to reporting by The Guardian. The 22-year-old is among the wide attacking options being considered by Liverpool before the transfer deadline, but Brighton have turned down the approach and it is not yet clear whether another offer will follow.
Watch the highlights:
The Guardian reported that Liverpool want to add two wide forwards to head coach Andoni Iraola’s squad. The club are continuing to pursue Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola while considering alternatives. PSG value Barcola at £145m, the report said, a figure that has prompted Liverpool to examine other potential targets.
Minteh joined Brighton from Newcastle for £30m two years ago. He has since scored nine goals in 66 Premier League appearances and has generally played on the right under Brighton head coach Fabian Hürzeler. The Guardian reported that the Gambia international would be open to joining Liverpool, although no agreement has been reached between the clubs.
Any further negotiations would take place while Minteh is recovering from an injury. He underwent surgery after suffering a leg injury in a pre-season friendly against Roma earlier this month and could remain unavailable for another eight weeks. That recovery estimate, like the prospect of Liverpool returning with a higher bid, remains uncertain.
Liverpool have already added versatile forward Victor Muñoz this summer in a £34.5m deal. However, the club have yet to replace Mohamed Salah on the right side following his departure. Minteh’s experience in that position helps explain Liverpool’s interest as the club works to reshape its attacking options before the window closes.
Brighton’s decision comes with their own forward resources under pressure. Danny Welbeck has left for Chelsea, while Kaoru Mitoma is injured, according to The Guardian. Liverpool have also considered PSG’s 18-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye, but the report said their interest had not developed into an offer. For now, Minteh remains a Brighton player and Liverpool’s next step is unresolved.
