Bridgeman clinches 17-13 US comeback win at Presidents Cup

The United States overturned a three-point deficit to beat the Internationals 17-13 at Medinah on Sunday, September 27, winning an 11th straight Presidents Cup. BBC Sport reported nine American victories in the day's 12 singles matches.

The turnaround followed an unprecedented position for the visitors. The tournament's official website recorded a 10.5-7.5 International lead after the fourth session and described it as their first advantage heading into Sunday singles on American soil. Geoff Ogilvy's team therefore began the last day ahead in circumstances no previous International side had achieved in the United States.

Jacob Bridgeman secured the decisive point against Australia's Min Woo Lee. BBC Sport reported that his four-foot par putt at the 18th completed a one-hole victory, clinching the trophy for captain Brandt Snedeker.

The winning singles players also included Cameron Young, Justin Thomas, Scottie Scheffler, Chris Gotterup, Collin Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele and Jackson Koivun, BBC Sport reported. That list, together with Bridgeman, included every one of Snedeker's six captain's selections. The official tournament website listed those picks as Thomas, Gotterup, Cantlay, Schauffele, Koivun and Bridgeman.

Snedeker had reminded his players of Medinah's history of unexpected finishes, BBC Sport reported. He played in America's 2012 Ryder Cup defeat there. Ogilvy said several tight matches could have changed the outcome, despite the anticipated American response.

The singles concluded a four-day matchplay competition between two teams of 12. Golf Monthly's explanation of the format detailed five fourball matches on Thursday and five foursomes on Friday, followed by four matches in each format on Saturday. Sunday's 12 individual contests made up the final session, leaving a large share of the available points to be decided on the last day. The format gave every player on both sides a singles match in the closing session.

The Americans had also won the previous edition in 2024. The tournament's official account of that victory identified Keegan Bradley as the player who secured the clinching point; this time, that responsibility fell to Bridgeman.
