Brentford Beat Tottenham 3-0 as Kayode Completes Opening-Day Win
Brentford opened their Premier League campaign with a 3-0 home victory over Tottenham. Keane Lewis-Potter, Vitaly Janelt and Michael Kayode scored as Mamadou Sangare impressed on debut.

Brentford began their Premier League season with a 3-0 home victory over Tottenham, scoring through Keane Lewis-Potter, Vitaly Janelt and Michael Kayode. The Guardian reported that Keith Andrews' side controlled the match at the Gtech Community Stadium, while Igor Thiago also missed a penalty that could have extended the margin.

Watch the highlights:

Lewis-Potter opened the scoring in the 12th minute after new midfielder Mamadou Sangare combined with Thiago on Brentford's right. Sangare supplied the pullback and Lewis-Potter arrived from left-back to finish from close range past Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky. The move set the pattern for a game in which Brentford repeatedly created openings.

Tottenham survived further first-half danger when Thiago headed against the crossbar and Dango Ouattara failed to convert two opportunities after breaking through. Brentford's second goal followed a midfield challenge won by Mathias Jensen against Lucas Bergvall. Kinsky could only parry Jensen's subsequent shot, allowing Janelt to score from the rebound.

Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi replaced Bergvall and Conor Gallagher at halftime, but Brentford soon added a third from a corner. Nathan Collins headed the delivery down at the far post, Sangare's attempt was saved and Kayode drove the loose ball into the net. Tottenham did not produce a notable chance until after they were three goals behind, according to The Guardian's match report.

Sangare's debut was a central feature of Brentford's performance. The Mali midfielder, signed from Lens for £39 million, played alongside Janelt and Jensen and contributed directly to the first goal. Andrews said there was strong trust in the structure Brentford had built, and the display showed both their open-play threat and their established danger at set pieces.

Tottenham started four debutants, including Andy Robertson at left-back and Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi in central defence. Their record summer signing Sandro Tonali also started, while Mateus Fernandes appeared from the bench. De Zerbi said afterward that his team lacked fight and operated as individuals, leaving Spurs with immediate work to do after a decisive opening-day defeat.
