Brentford Beat Tottenham 3-0 as Michael Kayode Seals Opening Win
Brentford opened their Premier League campaign with a 3-0 home victory over Tottenham. Keane Lewis-Potter, Vitaly Janelt and Michael Kayode scored as Spurs struggled on Roberto De Zerbi's competitive debut.

Brentford began their Premier League season with a 3-0 victory over Tottenham at the Gtech Community Stadium, with Keane Lewis-Potter, Vitaly Janelt and Michael Kayode scoring. The Guardian reported that Keith Andrews' side controlled the contest through aggressive pressing and created enough opportunities for the margin to have been wider.

Watch the highlights:

Lewis-Potter opened the scoring in the 12th minute after a move involving Brentford debutant Mamadou Sangare and Igor Thiago. Sangare exchanged passes with the striker on the right and delivered a cutback for Lewis-Potter, arriving from left-back, to finish from close range past Antonin Kinsky.

Brentford continued to threaten before the interval. Thiago headed against the crossbar, while Dango Ouattara twice reached promising positions but was denied a shot by heavy touches. The home side did add a second when Mathias Jensen won a challenge against Lucas Bergvall and shot toward goal. Kinsky failed to push the effort clear, allowing Janelt to score from the rebound.

Tottenham made two changes at halftime, withdrawing Bergvall and Conor Gallagher, but Brentford quickly removed any realistic prospect of a comeback. From a corner, Nathan Collins headed the ball down at the far post. Sangare's attempt was saved by Kinsky, and Kayode drove the loose ball into the roof of the net for the third goal.

Thiago also missed a penalty during a performance in which he caused repeated problems for Tottenham's central defenders. According to The Guardian, Spurs did not create a notable chance until Brentford were already three goals ahead. Tottenham had four debutants in their starting lineup, including three new players across the back four.

Andrews said there was strong trust in what Brentford had built, while De Zerbi acknowledged a lack of fight and described Tottenham's display as that of individuals rather than a team. The result gave Brentford a convincing start to Andrews' second season in charge and left De Zerbi with significant issues to address after his first competitive match as Tottenham head coach.
