Tavernier and Evanilson give Bournemouth 2-0 win over 10-man Sunderland
Bournemouth defeated Sunderland 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday, October 18, with Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson scoring either side of half-time. Sky Sports' match record confirmed the result and Kevin Danso's early dismissal for the visitors. The Guardian reported that the victory ended Bournemouth's wait for a Premier League win under Marco Rose.
Watch the highlights:
Tavernier put the hosts ahead in the sixth minute, heading in from an Evanilson assist, according to FotMob's match data. The contribution gave the Brazilian a role in both goals, first as provider and then as scorer. Bournemouth had established their lead before Sunderland lost a player, rather than needing the numerical advantage to break through.
Danso was sent off in the 17th minute after pulling down Evanilson, an incident reported by Sky Sports. Sunderland therefore faced most of the contest with 10 players and a one-goal deficit. They reached the interval without conceding again, but Evanilson made it 2-0 in the 48th minute, leaving the visitors further behind shortly after the restart.
The match statistics showed how much of the attacking play belonged to Bournemouth. FotMob recorded 29 attempts for the hosts against three for Sunderland, alongside a 65% share of possession. Its figures also listed 56 Bournemouth touches inside the opposition penalty area, compared with 14 for the visitors, underlining the difference in the teams' attacking involvement.
The result changed a difficult early-season picture for the home side. Extratime's pre-match records showed Bournemouth entering the fixture with three draws and three defeats from six league matches, having scored seven goals and conceded 13. Sunday's victory took their points total from three to six. Sunderland arrived with four points from one win and one draw and remained on that total after the defeat.
It was also a different outcome from the clubs' previous Premier League meeting at the same venue. The league's official report records a 1-1 draw on February 28, when Evanilson came off the bench to equalise after Eliezer Mayenda had scored for Sunderland. This time Evanilson started, supplied the opening goal and added the second in a Bournemouth victory.
