Bournemouth substitutes overturn Sparta Prague lead to seal fourth European win
Bournemouth recovered from a missed penalty and a first-half deficit to beat Sparta Prague 3-1 away in the Europa League on Thursday. Tyler Adams, Evanilson and Rayan supplied the goals after the interval, with all three scoring as substitutes. The victory gave the visitors four wins from four matches in the league phase.
Watch the highlights:
Sparta had led through Ebrima Singhateh in the 35th minute, but their advantage was followed almost immediately by a dismissal. Tobias Guddal received a second yellow card in the 37th minute, leaving the hosts to protect their lead with 10 players. Eurofotbal's match report identified the sending-off as the setback that preceded Bournemouth's second-half recovery.
Lewis Cook had earlier failed to convert a penalty, striking the post before Singhateh put Sparta ahead. Bournemouth were still trailing at half-time, despite having the extra player. Adams brought them level in the 57th minute, but the equaliser did not immediately become a winning position: the score remained 1-1 until the closing stages.
Evanilson broke that deadlock in the 81st minute, before Rayan scored in the 90th to secure the result. Everything AFC Bournemouth's live coverage recorded Evanilson as the provider for the final goal, as well as the scorer of the second. Two late finishes ultimately separated the sides after Sparta had kept the visitors level for much of the second half.
According to Sky Sports, manager Marco Rose had changed eight starters from the team that beat Leeds. He introduced Adams at half-time, and the midfielder converted a loose ball from outside the penalty area. Evanilson later received Ryan Christie's pass and created room for a low finish, delivering the decisive contribution from a bench Rose had turned to while chasing the game.
Sky Sports reported that the result extended Bournemouth's winning streak across all competitions to seven matches in their first European campaign. Singhateh's opener ended a run of six games without conceding, but not the run of victories. Rose praised his team's response after the penalty miss and opening goal, while stressing that maintaining the momentum required continued alertness.
