Bournemouth beat Sparta Prague 3-1 to maintain perfect Europa League start
Bournemouth made it four wins from four in the Europa League by coming from behind to beat Sparta Prague 3-1 away on Thursday. According to the Guardian’s match report, Tyler Adams, Evanilson and Rayan scored after the hosts were reduced to 10 men, extending Marco Rose’s side’s winning streak to seven matches during the club’s first European campaign.
Watch the highlights:
The visitors had an opportunity to take control before falling behind, but Lewis Cook struck a post with a penalty. Sparta then took the lead through Gambian forward Ebrima Singhateh, whose individual effort broke the deadlock in the 35th minute. That ended a run of six successive Bournemouth victories in which they had not conceded a goal.
Sparta’s advantage was quickly complicated by a dismissal. Tobias Guddal received a second yellow card within two minutes of Singhateh’s opener, leaving the home side to defend their lead with a player fewer. Bournemouth still went into the interval behind, with their European winning record under threat despite the numerical advantage.
Adams brought the visitors level in the 57th minute, driving a loose ball into the bottom corner. The decisive breakthrough did not arrive until the 81st minute, when Evanilson finished low across the goalkeeper to give Bournemouth the lead. Rayan then scored in the 90th minute, as recorded in the Guardian’s live coverage, completing the turnaround and giving the visitors a two-goal margin.
The result maintained Bournemouth’s unbeaten start to European competition and strengthened their position in the race for direct entry into the last 16. They have won each of their opening four league-phase fixtures, although qualification has not been secured. In Prague, their winning sequence survived both a missed penalty and the first goal conceded during that run.
Elsewhere, Ferencvaros also preserved a perfect European record with a 2-0 victory away to Milan. Haiti international Lenny Joseph scored both goals in the second half at San Siro, and the Hungarian side won despite Bamidele Yusuf being sent off. Milan were left outside the top 24 with three points at the halfway stage of the league phase, according to the Guardian.
