Bournemouth beat 10-man Milan 3-0 to maintain perfect Europa League start
Bournemouth maintained their winning start in the Europa League with a 3-0 home victory over AC Milan on Thursday, October 22. Justin Kluivert and Marcus Tavernier scored first-half penalties before Amine Adli completed the scoring at the Vitality Stadium. Milan's official match record confirmed the three scorers and the dismissal of goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
Watch the highlights:
The opening breakthrough came in the eighth minute. According to MilanPress's live reporting, Koni De Winter handled an Evanilson header, with a VAR check preceding the penalty award. Kluivert converted to put Bournemouth ahead. The hosts continued to create chances, with Ryan Christie and Evanilson subsequently forcing saves from Maignan.
Milan's position worsened when Maignan struck Tyler Adams during a Bournemouth corner and was sent off. MilanPress reported that a VAR check left the decision unchanged. Omari Hutchinson then made way for replacement goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani, who was beaten by Tavernier from the penalty spot. Bournemouth consequently reached half-time two goals ahead against ten men.
Ruben Amorim made two changes at the interval, bringing on Davide Bartesaghi and Adrien Rabiot for Pervis Estupinan and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Milan's official team record also showed Bournemouth manager Marco Rose using his bench after the break, with Lewis Cook, Rayan and Alex Toth replacing Adams, Tavernier and Kluivert. Adli later came on for Toth.
Bournemouth continued to threaten in the second half. MilanPress reported that De Winter intervened to stop a dangerous Ben Gannon-Doak delivery, while Rayan headed over and Toth sent a shot wide. Adli then scored from a free-kick in the 84th minute. Torriani prevented a fourth goal with a late save from Rayan.
The result left Bournemouth with nine points from three league-phase matches and Milan with three. Milan's pre-match information had listed the hosts on six points and the visitors on three, making this another step forward for Rose's side without a dropped point in the competition. For Milan, the defeat followed their 4-0 Europa League victory away to Salzburg.
